“Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14)

10.00 AM – French lesson sleepy head
I couldn’t drag myself out of bed soon enough for the first session of my French class today. So, I only joined the second session. The night before, I went with a friend for sushi and ate quite a lot. We talked about many things, ranging from Christian theology to much simpler subjects. I crawled to bed around 1 AM this morning and endured drowsiness while listening to le professeur.
01:00 PM – Dark Knight 01.30 PM for one
After French class, I decided to check out the nearby cinema for any interesting movie. It turned out that they were playing The Dark Knight. So, I skipped lunch and watched the movie instead. While waiting for the movie, suddenly I felt a sudden wave of loneliness. I have identified that this usually occurs on weekend because I have more time all by myself. I prayed that instant, asking GOD to help me deal with and overcome it. Then the movie started and I was quickly absorbed in it.
I have to say it is a better movie than last week’s Wanted. It makes more sense, the casts of characters are strong, and the plot is also well written. I really enjoyed the movie. I also know what all the fuss about Heath Ledger being a great actor is about. He really brought to life The Joker and his twisted mind. He did not disappoint and were able to step out of Jack Nicholson’s shadow.
The scene at the end of the movie where Batman confronted The Joker stuck in my mind. There was a dialogue about good versus evil and I could not help drawing parallels with the real war of this world. The Joker represents very well what the Devil is trying to do to us: He wants to corrupt us and tricks us into believing that GOD is not in control and that we should take control. When evil seems to have won, bitterness can get to us and we get angry with GOD because He seems to neglect us, while He ought to fix it all – so we think.
Another thing that also stuck is the conversation between Batman and Alfred about endurance. The world is a fallen world and the Devil will do anything to break us down. Alfred said: [Batman] must endure. The Bible says: persevere. So must we in life when the chips are down.
The last thing about the movie is the loneliness of the hero. Now, that hit home. GOD, in His infinite wisdom, often decides to let some people bear the pain of loneliness – because they can endure it. Perhaps, I’m underestimating the strength given to me through the Holy Spirit. Perhaps, GOD wants me to endure it sometimes. Well, I need to remind myself over and over again that I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
